Can you tell me more about the Once Upon a Game Series?
Once Upon a Game is a middle-grade book series that follows the adventures of two brothers in a fictional video game world called Yore.
Each book features a new adventure, where Noah (the protagonist) and his brother Alex must overcome obstacles to complete a quest.
It falls into the genres of fantasy and action & adventure, but it can also be categorized into a relatively new subgenre of fantasy called LitRPG (Literary Role-Playing Game).
If you’re not sure what LitRPG is, here’s a general idea of what to expect. The setting is similar to that of many open world RPG games like The Elder Scrolls, The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, or even Minecraft.
The books read like a typical adventure novel, but they contain the trappings of video games, such as managing a quest log and inventory, discovering loot, boss battles, cool magical abilities, and more.
Whether your kids are gamers or not, this series is action-packed an easy to read. Gamers will love the small details that remind them of video games, and non-gamers will find the gaming aspects simple and easy to understand
What kind of content is in your books / are they appropriate for my kids?
Generally speaking, these books are listed for ages 8-12. However, I have had parents read them to kids under 8, and there are plenty of teen readers and even adults!
In terms of content rating, they are similar to a PG movie. My books are family friendly, and can be enjoyed by all ages. There is no profanity, graphic content, or romance.
However, these books do contain combat and suspense, but it’s no different than what you’d see it your typical animated movie from Dreamworks, Pixar, Illumination, or similar.
